Flan

I bought at my trip to Las Palmas, ready powder to make Flan, spanish dessert. 


 I had searched some Gran Canarian desserts  at  the Google before we left, so i could now some names to search pastries at grocery stores or cafes and restaurants there. I want bake and taste something i haven`´t tasted before.





When i got home, I search recipes from Google called "Flan"

 I made them yesterday. I don`´t have six similar cake tins, so i made them into coffee cups. 

I made them exactly like it was on the recipe. The caramel was horrible. :D I have never tasted anything so bad  except goat cheese. Did i burn the sugar?  Was the frying pan too hot? Was the sugar wrong? It tasted too dark.

In the evening, i make the other Flan that i bought from Spain.  

This is the recipe from Flan if you want to try to do it. Maybe you could try if you could make better caramel than i did. :D 


Flan:

8 dl Milk 

4 Eggs 

4 Egg Yolk

Salt

Sugar 

1 Orange Peel

Caramel:

2 dl Sugar 
1 dl Water 


1. Heat oven to 150 degress


2. Boil the milk 






3. Make caramel.  Heat the sugar and water at the frying pan about 4 minutes and until the sugar is brown. 


4. Pour caramel into the coffee mugs, also around the edges. 

5. Whisk eggs, yolks, salt, sugar and the grated orange peel with the milk. Pour it to the mugs.

6. Put he cups on a baking sheet with at least a cent of water in the bottom. (double boiler)

7. Cook the pudding in the oven about 40 minutes. or until they have coagulated. (try it with the toothpick. Ready Flan does not stick to the toothpick. 

8. Let them cool off about 2 hours before served. 

Ready!



When my Flans were still in the cups. they look beautiful. But when i take it off and i saw what tey looked like, i think they were some kind of ufos. :D 

They would be better to keep on coffee mugs! :) But i wanted to see what they looked like. 


My Flan 





Flan powder was mixed in milk. I warmed the caramel in the microwave and put it on the bottom of the crib, circulating all the way back to the edges. Then i poured the boiled yellow  pudding and put it on the refrigerator overnight. In the morning i turned it on the plate, and tasted it. 

I didn`t really liked this version either. It was a lot of sweeter than the one i made but it was not the kind of dessert I liked. Im not a really friend of sweet and puddings. But now i have tasted it and tried to make something different.
